Justin’s Public Speaking & Appearances
Justin Rankin became a Local Leader in 2006 in Oakland County during the early years of Michigan Partners for Freedom. Justin said in a recent call,“Being a part of Michigan Partners for Freedom (MPF) has let me help others and helped me to be in the community.”
Though he has moved several times, Justin has gotten involved in each of the communities he’s lived. In 2014 Justin moved to Escanaba, making him the only Local Leader in the Upper Peninsula.

Shortly after arriving in the UP, due to a lack of employment opportunities, Justin began his own company, J-Bird Productions, a DJ business for parties and weddings. He offers music, Karaoke, lighted dance floors, and DVDs of the songs played. Justin is technology savvy and Justinrankintkd has a Facebook page and Twitter account. www.facebook.com/justinrankintkd
In 2015 Justin started a non-profit, Community Drive of the Upper Peninsula. The tag line for his organization is, “Self-Determination, It’s a Way of Life”. The group works to help people with disabilities get the supports they need to have the life they want.
This past year Justin also joined the MPF Steering Committee and is interested in the new self-advocacy group beginning through the Developmental Disabilities Council. He is also active in Taekwondo and loves science fiction.
He has been pursuing his passion and training in the martial arts for over the past 30 years. He trains 5-6 days per week on his own and zoom with his coach once a week with his coach. Justin dedicates the majority of his time on a daily basis to improving his skills and develop ways to adapt the martial arts for himself and others, focusing on strengthening and persevering through. With this experience, Justin's goal is to develop a program to assist other of all abilities in their competitive endeavors for taekwondo, primarily focusing on the para taekwondo athletes.
The World Taekwondo and the USA Taekwondo has identified Justin as a member of the International USA Para Taekwondo Team member. He holds a 2 Dan Black Belt in different styles in taekwondo/kukkiwon. Justin currently is an instructor/member of Rankin Taekwondo Academy and for Anthony's Adaptive Martial Arts and is a part of the Adaptive Martial Arts Association (AMAA). Justin earned two gold medals in his first debut at the US Open and at Iowa State Championships in 2018 and holds competition titles in Poomsae and Weapons.
Justin just finished attending his sixth national competition which result in a two -time USA National Championship. On June 18, 2018, Justin proudly signed his contract with Team USA/USA Taekwondo and he is the first athlete in his division and is ranked #1 in the USA and the World.
The next phase of his career requires tournament participation at an international level in order to maintain a qualifying world ranking. Justin is required to travel to any Team USA international competitions, which area held around the world. The upcoming events take place in Chile, Canada, Turkey, Mexico, and England. The cost of travel and tournaments will be significant but are an important piece of qualifying for the world ranking.
Justin appreciates any and all donation toward his journey in taekwondo. He is grateful for all the support he has received and looks forward to representing Team USA. " My ability is stronger than my disability." - Justin
